Baby's First Birthday - Planning

I'm trying not to think about the fact that my child will be one... ONE... in a few short weeks. I can't even say months anymore because months turned to month. Singular. And you don't say My baby is ONE in one month, two weeks, and three days because people may think that you're counting down. And you normally count down for exciting things, right? This isn't really exciting. Ok, it is a little. But really it's a little sad that this whole year has already come and gone. Where did that year go? Did we do enough in her first year of life? I mean, a year is a big deal!

You see? I could ramble about this bizz for days and still say nothing. So, I've decided to distract myself. I am in full-out party-planning mode over here and I've finally hit a wall.

Our theme is Pinwheels and my poor, poor fingers are raw from making teeny tiny itty bitty pinwheels.

My poor friends who've volunteered to help make them this week and next week have NO idea what they've committed to. This'll be fun, right? RIGHT?!

I'm doing a variety of sizes and using them in nearly all of our decor. The draw-back? I have focused only on pinwheels and not on the food I want to serve. Or who to invite. Or basically any other detail other than pinwheels.

Ok, some may think I'm being irrational because I have a month and a half left, but I have a busy month and a half ahead including two business trips (where I FINALLY get to meet my blog friend, Samantha... AHHH!!) and frankly, I'm crunched.

I feel like there is so much to do. Including invites (which I didn't think of until RIGHT this second.. dang).

Who do you invite to the first birthday? Babies her age? Kids from her daycare? Or do you stick to family until she is a little more interactive and can play?

I need ideas. Food ideas, decor ideas, anything. I've never hosted a first birthday before so I will take all the help I can get!

Ready? Go.

  1. YES!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!!!! I cannot wait!!

And I started planning his 6 months early because I'm a nut job haha it was all family and family friends. No games or anything, just food that matched the decor/theme... his was Mickey :)

And love those pinwheels... such a good mama :)

  2. Oh my goodness, bless your heart! Those are adorable though, and I can't wait to see pics from the party- no doubt it will be fabulous! I started planning when Tinley was 8 months. I may or may not have gone a bit overboard, but isn't that what you're supposed to do?! We invited all of our family and friends, about 60 people. I did a few posts back in January once Tinley turned 1, they might be helpful to you. We rented out a banquet room at one of our favorite local restaurants because 1- I didn't want to make a ton of food, and 2- I didn't want to clean up! It was perfect. But, really, whatever you do will be! Good luck!

Thanks for your sweet words!!
